This is the third year my husband and I have attended the health fair in Evergreen. First they took our side of the line last and we had been waiting a while. The blood draw was horrible. I am in some pain but my husband is worse and has a high pain tolerance. My husband has big veins. It took 3 times of poking in both arms for the 3 phelobotomists to get blood. Both his arms hurt. These people do nto know what they are doing. We WILL NOT attend the ehalth fair again. The people are amateurs and inexperienced.

There are people, like me, who have difficult veins to access. I inform the phellobotomists before they start about my situation. They may have to try a few times, but it is worth the effort.

If you don’t have the fortitude and you want to quit going, it is truly YOUR loss, too bad for you.

Wow I am sorry to hear of the negative experience. Drawing blood is a real skill and I’ve heard more than a few people tell me of negative blood drawing experiences in doctor’s offices. This is the first I’ve heard of such an experience at the 9News Health Fair.

I think the people at the 9 news health fair did an awesome job! They were very skilled, understanding, and knowledgable! I will be back for sure!

I totally agree. I went to it about 3 years ago and thought it was one of the best health care values for the dollar ever. The following year I volunteered at the 9 News Health Fair to help enroll children in the CHP+ program. That was also a wonderful experience. Hat’s off to the good folks at 9 News Health Fair!
It runs from April 17-25, 2010 so be sure and mark it on your calendar!

I have attended the fair for several years. This last year I had a huge bump where the blood was drawn and pain for several days, regardless I will attend this year. The cost for this blood work is prohibitive at the doctors office consequently I have no other alternative. I will try to chose who will draw my blood by watching people ahead of me.

I think that is a good idea! Also, don’t forget to make sure you are well hydrated before you go in to make it easier for them to draw your blood.

I am scheduled to volunteer in Wellington but I can not find the hours you will be operating. I know I am to be there at 6:30 A.M. but I do not know when the health fair ends.

I thought I saw that there was supposed to be a health fair in Windsor but I cannot find it on the website and I would really like for my husband and I to go cause we would like a clean bill of health before trying for a family. I am wondering if there is a location in Windsor, if not what would be the closest one for us?
Thanks

I can’t log on to register for the Erie Health Fair because I don’t remember my user name and password from last year.

Please make SURE that ALL are qualified to draw blood!!! I was a guinea pig this a.m. 4-25-12 in Arvada at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church. This Fireman poked my left arm at least 1/2 inch away from the vein with no success, but I didn’t notice that until I left the building!!! Then I decided to let him use my right arm as that vein is more prominent, even though that arm is on the side of my mastectomy of 13 years ago. Now it has a huge black & blue mark! He didn’t even know that he had to keep the top copy of my papers. He was a very nice man, but where was his training??????????

I had blood drawn at the Erie health fair. I’m a hard draw so I was put in a special line for someone who had lots of experience with difficult draws. The nurse who drew my blood chose the best looking vein and it couldn’t have gone better. She got it on the first try and I had no bleeding or bruising. My husband’s experience was equally as good. Hat’s off to Erie. Their nurses rock!

Glad to hear that all went well at the Erie health fair. I think they get it right much more than wrong. :-)
