September 3rd, 2013 – In Colorado, over 14,000 people have coverage through CoverColorado. CoverColorado is Colorado’s high risk pool that insures people with difficult to insure health conditions. Founded in 1991, CoverColorado operates as a non-profit organization.
With ObamaCare, starting on January 1st, 2014, no one can be denied insurance because of a health condition, so there will no longer be a need for the CoverColorado program after 2013. CoverColorado clients have until December 15th to apply for one of the new ObamaCare plans for a January 1st, 2014 effective date.
People currently insured by CoverColorado will have a wealth of choices available to them for the new year, including:
- 299 plans outside the exchange and they are all fully ObamaCare compliant.
- 150 individual plans inside the exchange.
- 92 plans for small business inside the exchange.
- National, regional and local PPO and HMO network providers.
