May 1st, 2026 – Cigna announced yesterday that it will exit the Individual and Family (ACA) health insurance market nationally starting in 2027. While this will not affect current Cigna Connect coverage in Colorado in 2026, it will impact many individuals and families when they shop for coverage during open enrollment later this year.
Cigna clearly stated:
- No changes for 2026 — Coverage remains in place through December 31, 2026
- No immediate action required
- Dental plans will continue
- Cigna will not offer individual medical plans in 2027
Cigna appears to be shifting focus toward employer-sponsored plans and pharmacy and care services.

Some blame was put on political changes that have made the individual market more challenging, particularly after enhanced premium tax credits expired—leading to higher costs and more volatility.
What This Means for Colorado
The impact is significant locally, as over 36,000 Coloradans are enrolled in Cigna individual plans today. Affected members must choose a new plan during Open Enrollment and can expect differences in networks, prescriptions, and costs when switching plans.
Cigna members will need to review the 2027 carrier plan options during the next open enrollment between November 1st and December 15th. Completed and bound enrollments done at that time will be effective 01/01/2027, so there will be no lapse in coverage.
