After Thanksgiving, Celebrate Small Business Saturday

November 9th, 2010 – Colorado Health Insurance Brokers is proud to promote Small Business Saturday, which is the Saturday right after Thanksgiving.

Started by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Small Business Saturday has quickly grown into a national movement to encourage people to visit their local small business stores, shops and restaurants on Saturday, November 27th.

Supporting local small business is really supporting your own community.  Studies show that for every $100 spent at an independent small business $68 is returned back into the local community.   Small businesses employ half of all private sector employees, generating 60 to 80% of new private sector jobs.

American Express has also joined in support of Small Business Saturday.  AmEx CEO Ken Chenault said that large retailers have Black Friday and online retailers have Cyber Monday, “and now, starting on Nov. 27 of this year, small business owners will have Small Business Saturday.”

AmEx is helping to promote Small Business Saturday using social media like FaceBook and Twitter.  AmEx will also give a $25 credit to 100,000 of its cardholders who pledge to use their cards at independent businesses on Nov. 27.   Small Business Saturday has a website with more information at: http://smallbusinesssaturday.com
